History
At our school, we aim to develop passionate, considerate and capable learners who are curious about the past and understand how history has shaped Britain and the wider world. Our History curriculum is designed to inspire pupils to ask questions, think critically and develop a strong sense of chronology.
We want children to gain a secure knowledge of key historical events, people and periods, and to recognise how these are connected. Through our curriculum, pupils learn to compare past and present, understand different perspectives, and use historical vocabulary with confidence.
History is brought to life through engaging, high‑quality topics that capture pupils’ interest and encourage deep learning. We place great importance on enrichment and memorable experiences, including immersive theme days such as Viking workshops, practical learning experiences like orienteering when exploring toys from the past and present, and educational visits such as our trip to Sutton Hoo. These experiences help pupils to develop curiosity, enthusiasm and a lasting love of History.
Our teaching approaches ensure that History is accessible to all learners, building knowledge progressively and enabling every child to succeed. By the time they leave our school, pupils are well prepared with the historical understanding, skills and curiosity needed for their next stage of education and for life in modern Britain.
